What Is a Ceramic Paint?
A ceramic paint is a paint that contains ceramics combined with urethane or silicone paints, and is technically called a ceramic-blended paint. Because it is based on existing paint, there is no such thing as ceramic paint on its own. There is also a misconception that a ceramic paint is equally effective due to the superior weather and corrosion resistance inherent to ceramics, but this is not the case. A ceramic paint is simply ceramic mixed in with a base paint, and its general performance is determined by the base paint.
Uses of Ceramic Paints
Ceramic paints are used in exterior coatings to add design and functionality. The most obvious example is the use of stone-like paints, such as natural stone. The fine ceramic particles reproduce the look and feel of natural stone. However, painting requires a complex process and high technology. Other paints that provide thermal insulation and antiseptic properties also exist, but not all ceramic paints have these characteristics. Ceramic paints with thermal insulation and thermal barrier properties are only available when they are blended with ceramics that have such properties. Therefore, it is necessary to check the base paint and the type of ceramic used in the paint.
Principle of Ceramic Paints
Ceramic paints are often used in three categories: durability, heat insulation and other functionality, and design. When painting exterior walls with these ceramic paints, either the roller method or the spraying method are used.
1. Hand-Applied Roller Method
This method is used when durability is important, as it allows for a thicker coating film. This method requires the use of different rollers for uneven and smooth surfaces, and is time-consuming. Also, the painting process is time-consuming because it must be done by hand.
2. Spraying Method
Painting is done by spraying paint using a special sprayer. The use of a machine not only significantly reduces the painting time, but also allows painting at a lower cost. However, the amount of paint used increases and there is also the problem of noise. Also, since it is not possible to apply paint with pinpoint accuracy, it is not suitable for detailed painting, and it is time-consuming to cure areas that will not be painted.
