The following is an overview of chip fuses. Chip fuses are chip component-sized fuses that are mounted on control boards. The chip component size is the same as that of a chip resistor. Therefore, chip fuses are diverted from chip resistors, taking advantage of the characteristic that when the current flowing through a chip resistor greatly exceeds its rating, the rated power of the resistor cannot withstand the current and results in an open breakdown. Therefore, many chip fuse manufacturers are also chip resistor manufacturers. Like chip resistors, chip fuses can be easily mounted using automatic mounting machines, making them easy-to-use and inexpensive components.
The following describes the uses of chip fuses. Although chip fuses are fuses, they are one of the chip components to be mounted on boards. They are used for the purpose of preventing heat generation in products due to circuit component malfunctions caused by overcurrents or overvoltages.
However, since chip fuses are small components, they cannot be insulated for long distances, and their ratings are not suitable for high power or high voltage circuits, so they are used exclusively for circuit protection in low voltage areas.

Even chip fuses with the same current rating, such as rush-resistant and time-lag types, have different fusing characteristics.
