A digital pressure sensor is a device that digitally displays the pressure applied in a pipe.
Since the value is measured by a piezoelectric element inside the device, it is possible to measure the pressure without directly touching the fluid that passes through the piping.
Different sensors should be used depending on the type of fluid. There are different types of sensors for liquids, gases, and flammable fluids, etc., so they must be used appropriately.
Also, since the sensor is fixed to a pipe, attention must be paid to the diameter of the pipe.
Digital pressure sensors are rarely used in homes, but they are used in industrial applications in all fields.
When water, oil, or other fluids flow in a plant, they pass through pipes to various devices.
The same fluid and the same force will generate basically the same pressure, but the pressure generated may vary from normal due to equipment failure, deteriorated piping, or other factors.
By recording the pressure, it becomes easier to detect abnormalities, which can be useful for quality control.
Pressure is measured when a force is applied to the piezoelectric element contained in the sensor.
A typical example of a piezoelectric element is a semiconductor. A semiconductor is a substance that conducts electricity under certain conditions. Unlike insulators and conductors, the timing of electricity flow can be freely changed by manipulation.
Silicon is a commonly used material. A flexible membrane (diaphragm) is attached to a silicon substrate.
When pressure is applied, the diaphragm bends, and the silicon substrate bends along with it. The application of a force creates a piezo effect that changes the charge state in the substrate, creating a voltage. Since the strength of the flowing current changes according to the difference in voltage, it is possible to measure how much pressure is applied.
There are also other types in which a resistive bridge is attached to the diaphragm and the amount of strain on the diaphragm is measured as a voltage change. When using the amount of strain, a metal diaphragm is used, and stainless steel is mainly used.
