A bevel box is a type of reduction gear for motors. It is also called a bevel gearbox. It is mainly used in large machinery and equipment that requires a power source, such as industrial machinery, and can change the direction of the rotation shaft transmitted from the motor by 90 degrees up and down or left and right.
Depending on the type, the shaft may be divided into two or four sections. Depending on the combination, drive torque can be transmitted in any direction. The built-in gears can also be used to reduce the torque of the motor.
Bevel boxes are used in large machines such as industrial machines and tractors. They are attached to the shaft of a power motor, which is the driving source, and can change the direction of rotation of the drive torque transmitted from the motor by 90 degrees.
The gears inside the bevel boxes have different gear ratios depending on their type, and can be used at the same speed or can be slowed down from the motor torque. If you simply want to change the direction of rotation without deceleration, you should choose a gear ratio of 1:1.
A bevel gearbox consists of a case, shaft, oil seal, bearings, and spiral bevel gears. The bearings help the shaft rotate, the grease sealed inside facilitates contact between the spiral bevel gears, and the oil seal prevents grease leakage.
Spiral bevel gears are available in gear ratios of 1:1, 1:2, etc. By selecting the appropriate gear ratio for the application, it is possible to reduce the speed or use the gear at the same speed.
When mounting a motor, it is necessary to carefully check which of the multiple shafts will rotate in which direction before mounting.
Depending on the type, the shaft may be divided into two or four shafts, but the internal structure remains largely the same in either case. However, the number of shafts and spiral bevel gears may increase or decrease.
The arrangement of the shafts and the reduction ratio of the gears also differs depending on the type of bevel box, so the direction of rotation and the reduction ratio of each must be properly ascertained each time the number of shafts is increased. For example, the structure tends to be complex, as shown in the following example: Shafts 1 and 2 rotate in the same direction, while shafts 3 and 4 rotate in opposite directions, and only shaft 3 has a reduction in speed from the drive source.
When selecting bevel boxes, be sure to select the right type according to the location and purpose of installation.
