"Ring Blowers" are a type of blower, a compact device that produces high air pressure.
It is suitable for relatively low flow rates for industrial use of 10 m3 or less. Because of its compact size, it is often used as a built-in device in industrial machines and equipment.
Ring Blower is the trade name of Teral Corporation and was previously manufactured by Fuji Electric Co. The common name is vortex blowers, but the widely distributed Ring Blowers have become a household name. The name vortex blower (Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems) is also well known, and they are almost identical in mechanism.
There are a great many types of blowers, each with different characteristics such as air volume and air pressure depending on the blowing principle and mechanism.
Ring Blowers are characterized by their high air pressure even at low air volumes.
Utilizing the above characteristics, ring blowers are utilized for air supply and handling in a wide variety of industries, as exemplified by the following examples.
Ring Blowers consist of a large number of impellers housed in a casing, and from the outside they look like a ring-shaped casing attached to a motor. The gap between the casing and the impeller is not very large. Intake and exhaust ports are located near the periphery of the casing.
In turbo blowers and axial fans, the air moves uniformly in the direction of flow, but in Ring Blowers, the air moves in a complex manner.
Air pushed out of the impeller by centrifugal force hits the casing, is pushed back, enters the next impeller, and is transported in a series of whirlpools. In the process of this movement, the pressure rises further. Because the air repeatedly increases in pressure, it is also called a regenerative blower.
Also, turbulence is generated by the movement of a large number of impellers in a narrow casing, and pressure is also increased by the transfer of momentum due to turbulence characteristics. The combination of these multiple effects enables a high air pressure to be obtained even in a small size.
On the other hand, the small size of the blades and narrow flow path make it unsuitable for transporting large volumes. Roots type blowers and turbo blowers are suitable for applications that require high flow rates at relatively low pressures, and the selection of equipment should be based on the intended purpose.
Therefore, Ring Blowers are more suitable for pressure-assisted conveying and handling than for simple air conveying.
