An angular pin is a slanted pin used in molds for injection molded parts with undercuts.
Undercuts are features of an injection molded part that prevent ejection from a simple two-part mold. The undercut process is used to release the undercut from the mold. The combination of angular pin and slide cores is one such treatment method. The angular pin on the fixed side of the mold and the slide core on the movable side of the mold, which resembles a sword sheath, are used. As the moving mold moves away from the stationary mold, the slide core expands horizontally to release the molded product. Since the slide core is subject to severe abrasion due to friction with the slide core, materials with excellent abrasion resistance are used.
Since the mold design is complex, the adoption of this method must be judged comprehensively, taking into consideration the production volume of molded products and other factors.
Since the angular pins are inclined so that the slide core slides outward, the undercut must be on the outside of the molded product. In both cases of mold closing and mold opening, a mechanism is required to restrain the movement of the slide core. When closing the mold, the slide core slides inward, so a block is needed to keep it from going too far, and angular pins are needed to secure this block. On the other hand, when the mold is opened, the slide core must be unfastened by angular pins and a block to prevent the slide core from sliding too far is also required. In addition, the core return spring attached to the slide core needs to be restrained.
In addition to the method using angular pins, the hydraulic slide method and the 3-plate method are other types of undercut processing.
