What Is a Linear Guide Rail?
A linear guide rail is a rail that has a place to store a sensor.
It is also sometimes referred to as a sensor bracket.The two terms have slightly different meanings, as a sensor bracket is not necessarily a linear guide rail.
A linear guide rail is used as a mounting rail for architectural lighting with various sensors, including motion sensors, and other mounting components. The German industrial standard DIN rail, which is a type of linear guide rail, is particularly commonly used.
Uses of Linear Guide Rails
In addition to the above-mentioned, motion sensor guide linear rails for building lighting, linear guide rails are also used for installing sensor controllers, fiber sensor amplifiers, and other devices in control panels.
In many cases, sensors are mounted on DIN rails in order to save space in the control panel and the man-hours required to screw several tens of sensors one by one.
Uses of linear guide rails also include rails for storing the internal sensors of actuators with linear guides.
Principle of Linear Guide Rails
Normal linear guide rails should be lightweight and low cost, and aluminum is often used as a material for this purpose. The length of the rail is cut according to the use of the application, and a width of 35 mm is often used for DIN rails.
Long holes are drilled in the back of the rail for mounting sensors, and hook-shaped, claw-like structures of the rail are placed at the top and bottom of the rail in the width direction. The sensor is secured by fitting into the concavoconvexities of the claws. Some manufacturers provide dedicated sensor plates to allow free adjustment of the sensor mounting position. The long hole is secured with an M4 or similar screw, but because of the unevenness, the head of the screw does not come in contact with the sensor component on the rail. Special saws are available for length adjustment, but you should also consider manufacturers that sell rails with finer increments of length.
Note that the DIN rail standard is a unified standard, so the dimensions of DIN rails from any manufacturer are standardized.
