This section provides an overview for parallel chucks as well as their applications and principles. Also, please take a look at the list of 1 parallel chuck manufacturers and their company rankings.

A parallel chuck is a parallel open/close type chuck that is mainly used for workpiece transfer.
The parallel chuck grips the workpiece at the center of the chuck, it has a similar function to the three-jaw scroll chuck used in machine tools such as machining centers and CNC lathes, but the parallel chuck is basically a two-jaw structure, featuring of a more compact structure.
Since hand jaws can be attached to the fingers according to the shape of the workpiece, the chuck is highly versatile.
This section describes the uses of parallel chucks.
Parallel chucks are often used in workpiece transfer machines because of their lightweight and compact features of the chuck.
For example, they are often used in loader machines that are connected to machine tools to supply workpieces. Because of its low weight, it can be used in high-speed loaders with strict maximum weight restrictions.
The shape of workpieces that can be gripped depends on the stroke of the fingers and the hand jaws to be installed, but basically cylindrical shaft material is suitable.
In general, parallel chucks use compressed air supplied from an air compressor to open and close the chuck.
An air cylinder is built inside the parallel chucks, and the air cylinder is mechanically connected to the fingers via driving rollers. When air is supplied from the air supply port, the piston of the air cylinder is pushed, and the driving roller pushes the fingers closed. A single air supply port is called a "single acting type.
On the other hand, some models have multiple air supply ports and are referred to as "double-acting types." In the case of the double-action type, the gripping force can be reduced depending on the air supply port used.
Since it is an air chuck specification, the repeatability tends to be higher (±0.01 mm or so) compared to hydraulic or manual chucks. However, being an air chuck and having a compact Structure of, it is difficult to clamp heavy workpieces.
